What Is The Difference Between A 7, 8 and 9 Bowl Set:

A 7 bowl set plays the traditional major scale singing from low to high "Do – Re – Mi – Fa – So – La – Ti". The crystal bowl industry sells this sequence of notes in the C major scale: 14" C, 13" D, 12" E, 11" F, 10" G, 9" A, 8" B. In the industry, this is known as the standard chakra set as many in the United States and Europe pair each musical note in the scale with one of the 7 major chakras: C – Root Chakra / D – Sacral / E – Solar Plexus / F – Heart / G – Throat / A – Third Eye / B – Crown. A 8 bowl set adds an additional 8" C to the set, known as the High C, that sings above the 8" B note. Adding this High C brings a completion to the musical scale, finishing off the octave. Instead of your set just singing "Do – Re – Mi – Fa – So – La – Ti", it will sing "Do – Re – Mi – Fa – So – La – Ti – Do." This final High C "Do" note gives a sense of completion to the scale, where before ending the scale on "Ti" can leave a sense of harmonic wanting. Try singing both scales, and you will experience the completion adding the 8th note create. The eighth note as well opens up more harmonic and melodic opportunity as it is highly harmonic with many other bowls in the set. During chakra meditations, the 8th bowl allows you to work with the soulstar, or 8th chakra, located above the crown of the head.

A 9 bowl set adds an additional 14" F to the set, known as a Low F, that sings below the 14" C note. This is also known as a 3rd octave F. Adding a low F note allows you to work with the Earth Star chakra, located below the root chakra. Being able to work with the Earth and Soul Star chakra together creates a very special connection between the upper and lower 'poles' of our energy field, not unlike the North and South poles of the Earth's magnetic field. These are traditional connecting points for celestial and earth energies which help us become an awakened vessel, or channel, of clear and coherent energy. The low F as well creates a foundation bass tone, which musically adds even more depth to the set. It fills the room with a low note, which the other bowls can play melodically above. It enriches the harmonies available in the set, producing a perfect fifth harmony below the 14" C. And, by identifying it with the Earth Star beneath us, we can learn traditional methods of connecting to the Earth for grounding, release, nourishment, renewal, and alliance with the medicine, elemental, and ancestral energies associated with the Earth Realms. It also serves to anchor us in this embodiment, to allow for greater 'self-realization,' which not only incorporates an understanding of Who we are (our 'essence,' relating to the Soul Star,) but also our 'purpose,' of "Why are we here?" These two questions, Who are we?, and Why are we here?, are foundation questions to spiritual paths of self-realization around the world, and integral to our awakening as fully embodied spiritual beings.
